Life is a Canvas

A friend of mine called me up to discuss about the possibility of having a weekend jaunt. He seemed to be bored and I thought we would just be going around the city for a couple of drinks but no, he wanted a different place. He wanted to go to Bislig once again! I really liked the idea but couldn’t leave Davao for I still have some projects to finish. I told him to have it next month but his schedule won’t allow it. His vacation leave will end this week. Oh, boy!

Why Bislig? And why do we really love to visit the place once again? For me, and for some of my close friends who have been there, Bislig is one of the best places to unwind in Mindanao. The reason? Simply because of its enchanting and beautiful Tinuy-an falls! It’s probably the best in the Philippines! Another reason is the fresh sea foods and the friendly people. And by the way, have you ever wondered where the city got its unique name? I asked a friend from Bislig and she told me that the word came from “Best Legs”! The water bursted out my mouth! I thought she was just kidding. According to the “legend” a foreigner who visited the place remarked “Wow! Best legs!” as he saw the beautiful legs of the women passing by. The word “best legs” spread like wildfire and later became “bislig” as locals had the difficulty in pronouncing the words.

That was few years ago. The “Best Legs” story was stored in my mind. But this morning, as I was segregating the pictures in my files, I noticed a folder containing the memories of the place. I checked it one by one and a particular picture captured my attention. It was taken when I was asked to be one of the judges in their beauty pageant. The picture of Bislig’s pride and joy: the T-nuy-an falls as the background and the “best legs” in the foreground! Happy viewing!
